Item # 13732

Circa 1980

16¾″ high by 12¾″ wide framed

Vintage and original wood block print by the Michigan artist Gwen Frostic. This print has never been out of the frame. It is pencil signed in the matte by the artist. On the back are 3 original wood block prints of Ms. Frostic's note cards. These are in good condition.

The wood block shows no damage but since I did not take it out of the frame I do not know if it is toned. There is ome very light toning on the matte.

It is a lovely landscape image.

Framed in its original frame the work measures 16¾″ by 12¾″.

The image showing measures 8⅝″ by 5⅝″.

It does have non glare glass on the print.

A long-time wildlife artist, Gwen Frostic worked in several mediums and also has written poetry. Thanks to her generosity, a garden has been dedicated in her name to the Frederick Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The following is from her website: www.gwenfrostic.com. Gwen passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 25, 2001. She was born April 26, 1906 in Sandusky, Michigan to Fred W. and Sara (Alexander) Frostic. As a well-known author and lecturer Gwen shared her observations of the universe. She was owner and president of Presscraft Papers, Gwen Frostic Prints, of Benzonia. Over the years Gwen had been awarded honorary degrees from many colleges and universities. In 1978 Michigan Governor William Milliken proclaimed May 23rd as Gwen Frostic Day in Michigan, and in 1986 she was inducted into the Michigan Woman's Hall of Fame. Long before her death she wrote her epitaph: “Here lies one doubly blessed. She was happy and she knew it.”
